OUR WORK DURING THE PANDEMIC
Covid-19 has brought many challenges. However, for His Children International, those challenges have turned into great opportunities to make a bigger impact in the lives of the children we serve, as well as in their families. God has showed up in an amazing way, bringing together different people who have either donated resources, or helped us serve others with unsurpassed love and commitment. A special THANK YOU to our staff in Colombia and Mexico for making this possible.
FOOD DRIVES
Our sponsored children and their families have been deeply affected by the pandemic. Since people were unable to work during the government-mandated quarantine, this created a major problem because families didn’t have the resources to purchase food. His Children International was able to feed all the sponsored children and their families, both in Colombia and Mexico. We provided enough food to serve close to 215,000 meals between March and July, 2020.
VIRTUAL STRATEGY
Not being able to have our sponsored children come to our centers, we implemented a virtual strategy to ensure that all of them would continue to receive the benefits of our program. We purchased tablets to be rotated among the children. In this way, they all have been able to participate in the different activities, either live (where there is internet connection), or through prerecorded material produced by our valued teachers. This strategy has included the delivery of meals and snacks for the sponsored children and their siblings.
Promoting the gifts and talents of our sponsored children is a vital part of our work. In 2020, our Annual Talent Show was very different. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we were unable to gather in a theater to enjoy our children’s performances. Therefore, our sponsored children participated virtually, putting together a beautiful show that included, for the first time, performances by our indigenous children from our center in Puebla, Mexico.
